Great Lunch at Okeanos in Park Slope
After watching the major renovation for many months, we tried Okeanos for the first time for lunch yesterday and were absolutely delighted. The space is bright, open and very comfortable. A full menu is available, but there was a great lunch special menu, which we tried. They first brought wonderful bread and superb olive oil for dunking. My husband chose the fried cod sandwich and I had the crab cake sandwich. Both were served on delicious bread with perfectly done shoestring fries and salad. Everything was fresh and delicious and very generous. At last! Great seafood close to home! There was also a burger special with great cheese toppings as possibilities and another special or two I just cannot remember at this moment. Service was lovely. They know what they are doing!
First dinner @ Okeanos. Very nice space: no expense spared on decor, with fine woodwork, granite countertops, open view of kitchen. Warmly welcomed by host. Fresh fish displayed in refrigerated glass showcase near entrance: snapper, branzino. orata, etc. Wines are all Greek. Only two whites and two reds offered by the glass ($8-10). Bottles are $37 and up.
Large selection of beers, including a Greek lager called Mythos ($5). Bread and infused olive oil placed on table upon seating. Lots of interesting apps, we chose the dipping platter, with taramosalata, humus, tzatiki and a garlic-potato spread ($9). Very generous, we took leftovers home. Fresh fish can be grilled, roasted or pan-fried ($16-18, including two sides). Skate, pastas, many other choices on menu. Service was attentive and friendly. Cash only. Portions generous. Check arrived with complementary slices of honey cake and another cake. Nice touch. Nice addition to Park Slope dining scene, I'm pulling for this one to make it.
