Old Fashioned (ie: not trendy) Raw Bar .
Looking to have a 'fresh from the sea' place to have shrimp, oysters, clams, crab etc....nothing fancy and certainly not any attitude...
We're in Aventura but we do have a car and pretty well will go anywhere within reason....I'm not looking for 'high end' just somewhere with a 'neighborhood/down home' regulars feel to it..not a place where I have to dress up to eat peel n' eat shrimp or a crab leg! I think you get the picture eh?
re: Alfred G
While not specifically a 'raw bar' we went to Captain Jim's Seafood on W. Dixie Hgwy....really liked it and will go back
next Janauary for certain...it was a bit disconcerting at first, having parked outside of the large front window where a 'fish fridge' was front and centre and just 2 tables in view..then looked to the left and saw an actual 'restaurant'...what we call 'neighbourhood style' (in Toronto)...It was SO GOOD!!!!! My husband and our friend raved about the Clam Chowder....I loved the shrimp (boiled, not fried) and the sweet potatoes were among the best I ever had anywhere...hot and crunchy..also had fried Okra which was also really good....I ordered creamed spinach which was my least favourite part (too creamy and rich...not something I would order again...........All in all we enjoyed ourselves, the service was prompt, friendly and the waitress most obliging! Now in our other winter home, Jamaica...where due to lack of tourists, many of our 'good' places have closed up due to lack of business....I guess!
p.s. We went to Southport Raw Bar last year and also liked it but wanted to try another 'dedicated' fish place...so now we have two good places for next year......
