HELP! Celebrating husband's 35th --Need a table for 10....Where should we go?? NOT TAO : )

We used to live in the West Village and eat out several times a week. Now we have lost touch. I would like to make a reservation for a small party. Fun atmosphere, good food etc. Including tip $125 p/p max. Husband loves beer, wine, tequila, sojo, sake....He loves to eat American, Japanese, Mexican, Fusion etc. We used to celebrate at Nobu but because I am treating for friends I think we will keep it to something cheaper...Please help! My sister suggested Tao and I feel like we have done that and it is predictable....

We just had a party of 10 at Inoteca on 3rd and 24th. Go to their website - they have a great set menu for groups and with drinks etc. it came to $90 a person. It was excellent!

I saw the Gyu-Kaku recommendation and thought of Woo Lae Oak in Soho, did my husband's birthday there and we had a blast, also a group of ten. Brought in our own wine and paid a fair corkage (don't remember, but it was worth it, we were drinking some pretty expensive stuff) and our own bday cake. They could not have been nicer.

Koi. Like Tao but with much better food.

Some places do big parties well - I say DBGB (American) or Bar Bao (Vietnamese Fusion).

I've recently read on the boards that Bar Bao might be/is closing - can't confirm, but worth looking into.

            From Eater NY
Curious Case: BarBao. There have been reports that (Michael Bao ) Huynh is no longer involved and his old partners are putting the space up for lease. Now Eater hears Huynh is buying it back within the week. We'll be keeping a close watch on this one.
