Detroit - Unusual meats

I am looking for a place that sells different meats (steaks, breasts). In particular I want to buy some bison steaks to cook at home but I would also be interested in ostrich meat. I have been to Papa Joe's and Holiday market around the Royal Oak area and can find ground buffalo but not the steaks. Anybody know where I can find them?

I went to Whole Foods about a month ago and they had bison but I am not sure if it is what you are looking for but may be worth a try.

Snooks/Colasanti's in Milford will either have it or get it.

TMZ farms in Ann Arbor has a buffalo herd and will have everything you want. http://www.tmzfarm.com/

I have also had good luck at Butcher Boy in Warren. 586) 779-0600. They are a meat packer and the retail part is small but give them a call and they will tell you when they will have what cuts. They also have exotic meats (lion, giraffe, etc.) at different times of the year.

Thanks for the tip. I went over to Butcher Boy and sure enough they had the buffalo. I also picked up some venison chops while I was there. Was kinda disappointed that I couldn't be eating a nice giraffe steak tonight :-) but they didn't have any of the really crazy stuff in today. I am curious to try TMZ...next time I make dinner for my in-laws out that way I will have to check them out.

Does Butcher Boy have a mailing list or anything? It sounds like a very interesting place that needs a wee bit more of attention. I personally had never heard of them...but wish I did. I am gonna drop in next week for a visit.

When you go in they have a photocopied flier that talks about what they offer. Not a high tech operation at all but have a nice stock. Worth the trip.

I have to admit I have not....It's on the list still, but the budget is still tight.
