Led Zeppole-Whole Lotta Love
Went by last night-no lines despite rather balmy weather for January. had 3 giant zeppoles with powdered sugar for $2.50. They gave me a bottle of Aunt Jemima to squeeze on top. Maple syrup on a zeppole? A Sicilian guy standing next to me said "that's so wrong" but it was so right. The Coney Island carnie atmosphere was made even more authentic as we took turns spinning the zeppole wheel to see if we could win free zeppole inciting shouts of "it's fixed" when nobody won. The ricotta calzone with powdered sugar also shouldn't have worked but the sweet sugar complimented the tangy fried ricotta filled dough perfectly. The Artichoke boys have done it again creating a "Stairway to heaven" or at leat to Coney island. I stopped by Nathan's for a hot dog across the street on the way home. Now we just need a ferris wheel.

Thanks for the Led Zeppole report. I happened to walk by over the weekend, during an afternoon, and it was closed. Too bad for me.
I just couldn't get over why you would kill the good taste that you had from LZ by going for a, imho, bad hotdog at that Nathan's on 14th? A case of "Good Times Bad Times", imo.

re: smokeandapancake
Clearly we have a "Communication Breakdown"-I agree the Nathan's on 14th (and in Manhattan generally) are nothing but a "Heartbreaker" and the Original Coney Island Nathan's is the last of the "Houses of the Holy", but I was trying to keep the Coney Island feeling alive and just "Ramble On". The "Black (hot) Dog" was overcooked but I guess it was "Nobody's Fault but Mine". I almost got "Trampled Under Foot" crossing the street to avoid getting a parking ticket from the "Living Loving (meter) Maid" who said your "Time is Gonna Come"but I told her "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" I had "No Quarter". I still had the bag of zeppoles with powdered sugar which I shook to evenly coat them with sugar. I peeked in to see how they were doing and they spoke to me "You Shook Me".
