Live Crawfish in Houston Area

Does anyone know of a good supplier of live crawfish in the Houston area? Preferably a place where I can pick them up on a whim and not have to order. I usually buy mine on my way back from Beaumont when I am on business, but really want better accessibility. Also, has anyone figured out how many pounds of live crawfish it takes to cultivate one pound of tail meat? I use them for etouffee, etc. Can't stand pre-packaged tails!

  1. Saw them at 99 Ranch for 4.99 a pound and they were pretty tiny. Keep in mind it's early in the season so prices will eventually go down and they'll get bigger.

    1. I called Rose's in Seabrook and they'll have them on Friday.

      1. I have been buying live crawfish from Cajun Gourmet 281-204-4497 for several years and have always been satisfied with the product and price. I have never had a problem with a sack of dead crawfish. They get them fresh from LA everyday. The only thing is that they deliver to restaurants and so you have to meet them on their route to all the different places they sell to. It may sound like a lot of trouble but since they sell crawfish all over Houston you can usually find a conveinent place to meet them. I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes. They are there when they say they will be. It is always best to call the day before but I have called at the last minute and not had any problems. As of today they have them for $3.50 a lb but like the other person said, once we get into the season they will go down in price. I can't pass them up for Superbowl.

        1. It takes about 5lbs of crawfish to get 1lb of tail meat.

          1. HEB has signs up now that you can get live crawfish. At least the one on Fairmont Parkway did a few days ago.

I was at the one on Bunker Hill this morning and didn't see any, but it was early in the day and not everthing was out. One thing they did have that is very tempting is Kobe strips and ribeyes for 16.99, regular 29.99. Maybe I'll do one Monday.

                Kobe beef - yum.

Maybe it was just the HEB over here that had live crawfish, don't know. I think they were $2.99/lb.
