Northeast PA Report
While on a family/ski trip to my fathers house and Elk Mtn., we had some surprisingly good meals in a traditionally tough part of the world for restaurants.
Honesdale - Bistro 1202 in the refurbished Wayne hotel. Had a very nice lunch including fried calamari, homemade chips with truffle oil and blue cheese and a very good beer list. Dinner menu looked promising as well
Honesdale - Alpine Restaurant is certainly not a newcomer, but is worth the mention for their wursts and adjacent butcher shop. Red cabbage, potato salad, potato dumplings, smoked trout and potato pancakes were also worth mentioning (although an overcooked, over cloved, stringy saurbraten should be avoided).
Hancock - Blue Stone Grill - Granted this is in NY, but just over the river. Neat old house converted into a charming little restaurant. This was our best meal and the first serviceable wine list. Cassoulet, lamb sliders, crab wonton, homemade pierogies all impressed.
The Alpine is certainly my favorite in Honesdale.
Have not tried Bistrot 1202 because the previous occupant was so disappointing but now I'm curious.
Totally agree that Blue Stone Grill that Blue Stone Grill is one of the best!
A good lunch option in Honesdale is Patisserie du Jour. I have friends who swear by the lamb sandwich
