There is Pierrot (french bistro) and Antonios inexpensive Italian place both near the corner of Cambridge and Charles. Further on Charles, King and I Ristorante Toscano, Artu, but these are a bit further to walk. Also, Liberty Hotel has a couple of places in it (Scampo).

Ma Soba, about 5 minute walk up Cambridge St. While pan asian ish, IMO the sushi is pretty good.
There's also that little italian family place right across Cambridge St. from MGH. Good red sauce place.

Scampo would be my choice.

Agree, Scampo is great. Pierrot Bistro is ok and much less expensive. Also, Figs on Charles Street is good and less expensive than Scampo, which is the best.

I agree with Scampo. We did this before the holidays when visiting a friend at MGH. We parked in the garage at MGH and it was a one block walk. Service was great and food was even better...

We've always enjoyed Lala Rokh when we're in the area. It's low key, not too expensive, and the menu is always different and enjoyable. It's about 4 (?) blocks down Charles Street and a half block left on Mt Vernon.

Antonio's is an expensive Italian place that is pretty popular in the neighborhood. I especially enjoy their red sauce and their mussels in white wine.
Other standouts include Scampo, at the Liberty Hotel, which also offers Italian with a great offering of mozzarella. The Paramount, which is known for their breakfast, also serves great dinner options and their fish dishes are some of the best I've tasted. 75 Chestnut is a bit of a further walk on Charles Street but they offer great standard American fare at reasonable prices. 75 Chestnut is one of my favorite neighborhood spots.

Did you mean inexpensive? I recall lunch being very reasonable and dinners not so bad either--pasta anywhere from $10 to meat entress being $14.
I agree with the Scampo recommendation. It is a lovely spot and right next to Mass. General.

i work in the area so i know almost all the restaurants around here.
all the restaurants mentioned are pretty decent, some more upscale than others (in the liberty hotel or on charles street in beacon hill). however, there is one notable restaurant that is not mentioned: grotto. it's in the basement but the food is delectable. it's located on bowdoin street towards city hall. definitely worth a try.

I agree GROTTO is fabulous

I agree on Grotto but thought that it might be far for an MGH patient to walk to.

Scampo in the Liberty Hotel gets my vote
