Where to shop for good fruit/veg and specialty items near Dupont Circle/Adams Morgan?
My sister lives in DC and we have been trying to eat a little better at home but a lot of the things I am suggesting for recipes she is having trouble finding near her - Puy Lentils, Fermented Black Beans, good selection of spices, blood oranges, meyer lemons, Tuscan kale. Is Whole Foods the only answer? Appreciate any help you can give.

The Harris-Teeter supermarket, still relatively new and nice, is by far the best selection of fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, lentils, etc. It carries everything you mentioned and is fairly cheap for the neighborhood.

For good fruit and veg, definitely visit the Dupont Farmers Market on Sundays (all year round, 10am start in the winter). The U St/14th St market runs May - November. There are also farmers markets in Adams Morgan, but I'm not as familiar with them.
