Best Steak Tartare in Manhattan???

I love steak tartare and look for new places to try all the time. So far, the best steak tartare I have found in the city is at Jacques Bistro on East 85th street. Can anyone else recommend really, really good steak tartare for me to try? Thanks so much!

Minetta Tavern has an excellent tartare trio appetizer. Beef, lamb, and veal maybe? Very tasty and surprisingly not overpriced.

I haven't been in a long time, but I really like the steak tartare at Cafe Luxembourg.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the steak tartare at Jacques changed in the last year? There's something missing...can't put my finger on it...something piquant...it went from being great to being a B++. Still the best steak tartare.

The absolute best steak tartare I've had was at L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon. However, at almost $40 for a relatively small portion, I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. It does come with a perfect little bundle of hand-cut frites.

try the version at Employees Only in the west village while I think the rest of their food ranges from being decent to good, their steak tartar is excellent and is the best version ive had in the city

That's one of the place I recall reading good things about. Now I just need to get myself downtown more often. Is it the kind of place that I'd feel comfortable eating alone?

depends what night you go and what time, its a fairly lively place with a reasonably big bar scene in the front

all in id say you're probably better off going with someone

Thanks - my husband is out of town this week, so I was wondering ....

Yes, that is probably my second favorite steak tartare. It is really good there.
MMRuth, thanks, I will try Le Magnifique.

Let us know what you think of it after you go. I've read mixed things about Magnifique - there is a poster here who has really liked it, but have read rather negative things elsewhere. Le Paris is in my neighborhood and has the same owners - the food is quite good, though the steak tartare is rather disappointing, unfortunately.

I'll have to try Jacques. Much as I love steak tartare, it's not a dish I've really sought out. That said, I like the Balthazar rendition (and make it at home) as well as the one that I had at Le Caprice before Christmas. I know there are several places that prepare it tableside, but I've never been to any of them. I did walk by Le Magnifique on Lex the other day, and saw that they also prepare it tableside.
