Staying on Magnificent Mile-Going to Wrigley/Sheffields
Ive never been to Chicago, but we want to see Wrigley Field, even though the Cubs arent playing that particular day...and want to check out Sheffields Beer Garden. First is it worth it? And second, how should we plan on getting out there and how much time to allocate out there? Any other things to do while out there?
Thanks so much!!
Worth it, to see the outside of an empty stadium and a beer garden? Really, that's up to you. You can get there by car, cab, public transit (CTA Red Line to the Addison Stop), or walking, depending on where you're starting out. It's about 4.5 miles north of the Loop (the center of the neighborhoods comprising downtown Chicago).

If the Cubs aren't playing I'm not sure why one would go to Wrigley (though I believe there may be a tour) and Sheffield's Beer Garden (been there a few times) wouldn't be on my list of "foodie" things to do in Chicago. So, if you've got your mind set on that, fine, but Chicago is a great down with (IMHO) a lot better things to do. Now if the Cubs are playing its an entirely different story....

Are you coming in the warmer months? Then I would recommend going to see WF even if they aren't playing. In the winter - not so much. Sheffields is a place I'd recommend going to on a NON Cubs game. The back patio is very nice to have a drink. Even in the winter, they have a nice fireplace and it is cozy. They have good beer on tap as well. But it can be crawling with drunk idiot Cub fans on game day which makes it particulary not fun.
If you do go to WF and want something good to eat, I'd get on the 22 Clark St bus going to Howard (north) and go to Andersonville. Check out the Hopleaf which is on the corner of Clark and Foster. Andersonville is a fun neighborhood to poke around in with really great bakeries and a variety of restaurants.
Time wise to WF - Depends on your hotel. Allow about 20-30 minutes. Bus to Andersonville - 20-30 minutes too.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Chicago is a couple of blocks north of Wrigley, and one stop on the Red Line, Sheridan, above Addison:
