Long layover at Fort Lauderdale airport, anything chow worthy?

We have a 4 hr layover on our way to Treasure Cay Saturday, any suggestions? Would rather not leave the secure area, unless we have to. Flying on Continental.

Ended up eating at Chili's on both legs of the trip. The stuff at Chef Allen's did not look good. Chili's was not good either. Had the sliders, overcooked, dry, crappy buns. Wife ordered buffalo chicken, blah. Had an app sampler on the way back, not good either. I feel bad for anyone that has to travel through there regularly.

Any Cuban restos close to FLL? (had some nice empanadas at the Miami airport last year - La Carreta?)

Well did some more searching and found that Rustic Inn would be a good place - we've never had Stone Crabs before!

I tried one of those Chef Allen sandwiches in Terminal 3 (JetBlue) last week. They sound much better then then look and taste.
If you have 4 hours and it's not a peak security line time, then I'd venture out of the airport and check out either Anthony's Runway 84 or Anthony's Coal Fire Pizza.

Actually if you have four hours you can take a cab to Tom Jenkins. It is about 3 miles north of the airport on us1

Also, this isn't the best Cuban food in South Florida (very run down establishment), but it is authentic and close to the airport if you'd like to try something different.

If you are interested in cabbing out and back through security, you could consider Jaxson's Ice Cream, just a few miles from the airport. No "fancy" food, but decent burgers with sweet potato fries and the best ice cream in South Florida.

The ice cream selections are HUGE so plan to share. Everything is made in house: ice cream, toppings, etc.

The reviews for Anthony's Runway 84 make me think even the airport is a better bet.

Yeah, Chef Allen is not good. Take a cab and pick one of the many good restaurants recommended on the FL boards. There are all kinds depending on your mood at the time within $20 fare.

As someone who has been stuck in that particular airport many times flying standby, Save your appetite and your wallet for decent food when you arrive at your destination. There is nothing worth spending a cent on in that airport, its a barren wasteland.
