Dancing Bear Lodge - Townsend TN
It is always a relief to leave behind the glitz, glare and traffic of the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area and discover how quicky you can be in the beautiful Smoky Mtns. We stayed at Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend which is the "quient Smokies" and had dinner at the lodge.
Really enjoyed the attentive staff, sitting by the fire and the ceramic handmade plates rather than china were a nice touch that fit the outdoorsy yet upscale feel of the lodge. While wine by the glass was a bit pricey you did well to order a bottle and take remainder back to your room to enjoy by fireplace.
That night they were offering a Market special of 4 courses for $38 - all featuring local items - great deal - w/ wine pairings add $30 or $35 I think...still a good deal.
We ordered off the ala carte menu..brisket...moist, tender and flavorful and a NC trout that was perfectly done.
Only complaints would be that the beans w/ the trout were underdone and crunchy and the salad plate was too big and the poor little spinach & local goat cheese were lost in the middle.
Funny that they referred to the amuse bouche as a "snack"
2 salads, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and 1 bottle of wine $120 which included tax & automatic 18% gratuitiy.
My understanding is that the Dancing Bear Lodge is owned by same group/family that owns Blackberry Hill in Walland.....
