Fork in the Road's 10 best of the East Village

Fork in the Road just put up their 10 best of the EV. Between the runners-up and readers' suggestions, they pretty much listed all of my neighborhood favorites, even if I disagree with the ranking (how do they not list Caracas in the top 10?) What are your thoughts?

  1. I wonder about Sietsema sometimes. How can he rank Hasaki over Kanoyama? How can he rank Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar (which when it was in the orginal townhouse was unbelievable but is now a shadow of its former self) over Degustation (which didn't even make the list)? B&H over Veselka?

      I have the SAME complaints.

JLOB vs. Degustation, he said he didn't want to include multiple restaurants from the same empire and he'd recently eaten at JLOB but not Degustation. Which I think makes the list completely invalid!

Hasaki over Kanoyama has me scratching my head too.

The Smith as a winner is also a head scratcher, its a solid restaurant, but not great, and this is coming from someone who is a regular.

          Also agreed.

      2. That Soba-ya is on the runners-up list while Soba-koh - a superior restaurant - is absent altogether makes me deeply suspicious of the validity of these rankings.

          Agreed.

Soba-koh is one of the most underappreciated restaurants in NY

        2. Maybe I'm a difficult eater, but I've never had a good meal/experience at Caracas. Something is just not right there... Ippudo as #1? Really!?! Back Forty should be higher up.
