Burger Joint

Foodlover82 Jan 14, 2010 04:57 PM

I live in the Midtown West area and frequent the Burger Joint quite often. The last 4-5 experiences have been quite inconsistent. I generally order my burgers Rare to Medium Rare and they have always come out Medium or worse. I am done with the Joint. The trek to JG Melon's is well worth it!

No. I have seen it on many posts. I will definitely try it out.

I agree with the OP. I've had 3 visits to BJ and found each one worse than the previous. I kept going back in the hope it was "an off day." I even went at different times, but it was still the same, both for the burger and fries.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of Island Burger. They're the kind of burger place that is great if you're more interested in the toppings that go on the burger than the burger itself. The meat itself is nothing to write home about, and I find the buns they use can rarely hold up under the weight of toppings and the oversize patties. I'm not one to order burgers with salsa, avocado, marinara sauce, or any of the other unusual fixings Island Burger offers, so it's just not my kind of place (and I really can't get past the no fries thing. Chips just don't cut it).

That said, if variety's your thing you might like Island.

The lines at Burger Joint are ridiculous.

JG Melon is trading on its reputation. Two visits in the last two years proved this to me.

And Corner Bistro -- my favorite for years -- has now become so popular that the lines rival Burger Joint's.

Does anyone remember the Prexy's burger restaurant chain in NYC? I think the last one went out of business in the 1980s. Now *that* was a good burger.

Consistency has never been Burger Joint's strength as far back as I can remember, at least six years ago, when being served first an eye-opening burger, and second, on my return, one simply mediocre. And I also remember being almost ready to swear the place off last winter due to inconsistency.

Price, on the other hand, has certainly changed, and it's harder to stomach the now 8$ average efforts. Though, my most recent visits have left me very satisfied! and except for the end of December, when I skipped the meal altogether upon entering the hotel lobby, with lines not exceeding the door frame.

i still love Burger Joint. It's more a fast food place so of course the burgers are going to be inconsistent and the line is avoidable if you go after 2pm (for lunch). I'm with robertgoulet on Island Burger. The meat isn't great, the buns are weak and the toppings are overwhelming.

I had a burger this week at 5 Napkin and it was pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. It's on 9th Ave. near 45th.

I have been to 5 Napkin probably 5x. I enjoy their cheeseburger, lamb burger and turkey burger. They do a great job! Cooked the way you want it and very tasty meat.

                Good beer selection too.
