Albertsons South Fl
They announced this morning they are closing 5 South Fl stores including Delray, and on my way home tonight they had huge billboards announcing up to 50% off everything right now. There are some good bargains to be had, mostly on non food items, but cans are 10% off and wines and beers 20%. Worth going in to stock up on items that are already cheap.

Went by today because we were in the area. Very little is actually 50% off. You want candles and incense... woohoo you can get them for 50% off. Some makeup 50% off. Even their seasonal items were only 25% off. Meats were 5% off, most food 10% off, candy 25% off, medicines 25% off but not a whole lot left. We were a little confused but realized at checkout that if the item says it's on sale you will still get the additional % off. Those items might be really the only values in the place. I found most of the grocery items to be substancially more expensive than Publix or Walmart. If you are looking to save some $$ go to Walmart. It's across the street. There was also an odor coming from the back, think it was the seafood market.

The Albertson's here had some interesting ethnic groceries, and I remember stopping in there to see if I could score some items on the cheap. But they'd pulled those items before the liquidation sale started.
And then when Publix opened up in the old Albertson's store a few months later, the ethnic stock was entirely new product, but it was clear that they'd gone with the same Caribbean foods subcontractor that Albertson's had used to use for that section because they essentially took the old stock lists and then expanded selection by about 30-40%. Not directly related to anything other than it's interesting to watch how the big chains vary a certain number of their products based on neighborhood demographics.

re: beachmouse
yes it is interesting how Publix realise there is a big British market in So Fl because they all have a smallish Brit section but at least I can satisfy my cravings for Cadbury's Flakes, custard, biscuits and HP sauce amongst others. Albertsons and Winn Dixie don't have such a selection. However, Albertsons do currently have a reasonably large Kosher section so I guess Publix will have to fill that niche after the closures.

Our latest Albertsons flyer had big writing all over it that said that it ONLY applied to our local store... it was just regular sales stuff. I'd be really upset if they closed our store - their prices on meat are great.
The Winn-Dixie near us is closing though - they had a bit 50% off sale sign up there.
