NFL and quality Quebec beers

stubish Jan 14, 2010 10:48 AM

Hi all,
We're staying in montreal and want to catch the NFL playoffs this weekend. We'd also like to sample a few quality quebec beers while we do it. Any suggestions? We're actaully in Dorval and will commute downtown/latin quater for the game.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I suggest doing a search on this board for sports bar and just take a few minutes to call and ask them before hand. Champs will surely play the game. Try the above

Champs is a sports bar located on St-Laurent blvd. (3956 boulevard Saint-Laurent) that has a number of TVs and food. It is your typical sports bar with kinda expensive bland food but if you're looking for NFL it's probably the best place to go. I don't really know what kind of beers they have on tap but i'm sure they have bottles of some of the larger local beers (mcauslan brewary etc.) but as far as i've seen they usually have specials for the commercial swill only (molson, labatts etc.)

Just so you know the Canadiens have a hockey game on Saturday night that will interfere with the Colts/Ravens game so i doubt you will find a place that has that game on with audio. More than likely all the bars will have the Habs game on with audio on the big screen and a tiny TV playing the football game in some corner. Champs has two floors and they might have each game in a separate room so you can at least hear what's going on.

As the last poster mentioned, with the Habs game on Saturday night you might be out of luck at smaller places with only a couple of screens. Another alternative is Ye Olde Orchard Pub. There are 3 locations, two downtown (one on Mountain, the other on Prince Arthur) and one in NDG on Monkland. They have enough screens that you should be able to watch the NFL night game on Saturday. As for Quebec beer, their selection is decent, they have Cheval Blanc, St. Ambroise/ McAuslan and Griffon. Their food is also pretty good for a pub/sports place.
The problem is that places that specialize in Quebec beer, like Saint Bock, probably don't show sports at all.
