Healdsburg/Yountville selection for March

mousse Jan 14, 2010 09:41 AM

I am getting our itinerary together for March and wanted to see what everyone thinks. Am I making any big mistakes? Missing a great restaurant? Also thought it might be time for updates to these areas. For various reasons we have 3 nights Healds/3 nights Yount/3 nights Healds. So I was thinking:

Healds Part 1
Madrona Manor (staying there, so makes sense)
Dry Creek Kitchen (we have a relationship there, so non-negotiable)

French Laundry (if we get reservations)

Healds Part 2
We only have one night for a restaurant.

So...what do you think?

If you do not get FL you might go to Cyrus in Healdsburg. I am not sure you would want both over a few days. Keep in mind if you go to FL at night the drive back is not fun during rain season,so get reservation for your nights there. .
You will enjoy both your choices in Healdsburg. More low keyed in Healdsburg is Zin or Scopa both only a few miles from MM. I think you will love staying at MM.

Forgot to add , Cyrus is 3 plus hours. If you are looking for a place to have a drink their bar is very accommodating. Largest list of local wines in country plus a great single malt list an you can eat off of a small very nice menu there. It is very nice to have a drink there even if not eating.......no need to dress up...small room and local wine cliental.

Loved Cyrus and really want to try Scopa. Regarding Yountville - my two favorites in town are Cantinetta Piero and Ad Hoc.

out of all your picks -- been to most -- i liked Madrona Manor the best --
you should try to work in Ad Hoc or Ubuntu

I heard the chef departed from Ubuntu. I liked it and thought the food was great, but have to say I came away (after eating a lot) wanting to drive through In-n-Out Burger on the way home. Also thought it was a little pricey for the service, etc.

We have bee to Cyrus 3 times, it's amazing! I would consider a meal at Bottega, it's really great. We have dined at REDD and Ad Hoc, both are very good but Bottega is pretty hot right now. We will be in the wine country soon, I'll report back on our meals after we return. :)

Syrahgirl unfortunately your meal at Bottega was an exception. Most people find it great if you want to see Michael (which lots of touristos do) but not great for the food. Locals pretty much steer clear of Bottega when there are much better options in the valley - including Cantinetta Piero just up the street.

That is funny. My friends and I had a good meal at Ubuntu too, but we actually did go to In-N-Out afterward because we were still hungry.

Cyrus in Healdsburg is fabulous. That would be my first choice for your Healds Part 2.

Scopa in Healdsburg is good food, lots of fun, and hot right now.
