Vegetarian Meat Analogs

menton1 Jan 14, 2010 07:26 AM

Years back when I lived in NY there used to be a couple of Vegetarian Chinese style places that served some fabulous-tasting analog dishes. I recall Veggie Roast Duck, and also Wheat gluten in a variety of textures and sauces. Anything like that still available in the city these days?

I had the most "realistic" mock duck at Zabb City recently. I thought I was eating real duck, but the waitress assured me that it was a higher priced analog.

Also try House of Vegetarian at 68 Mott St., and the "roast pork" and other mock meats at Buddha Bodhai.

Red Bamboo and Vegetarian's Paradise 2 both serve mock meat. I believe their sister restaurant, Dragonfly, does as well.

Wild Ginger also has a location on Smith Street in Brooklyn. We went for my birthday last week... great place.

Dragonfly closed a few years ago, if we're talking about the one that used to be on 7th Ave. in the WV. AFAIK, they haven't reopened at a different location.
