Diners/coffee shops with lots of character in SF

Hi all,

I'm going to SF this weekend, haven't been for about 15 years. I like blue collar places, diners, and coffee shops. But, I don't eat beef, pork or chicken so I'm looking for places that offer good seafood and/or veggie dishes. I'm staying in Union Square but am looking for places all over. Thanks!

    This might be a help

Visitng SF. Eat like a local not a tourist.

You might pay attention to the lists for the Tenderloin and Mission. Also there is a link to the Chow Digest which has lots of reports on the type of place you are looking for.

Probably the best diner type place is Grubsteak, though I'm not sure I'd send anyone there who hasn't been to SF in 15 years ... I mean, it's diner food. They do have Portugese dishes on the menu in addition to regular American dishes.
