Between Portland and Hood River
I'm looking for a place to meet friends to eat, drink and play cards somewhere between Portland and Hood River, although, in actuality, it could be on either side of the river. I know nothing about the Washington side but a friend lives in White Salmon and we're trying to find somewhere in the middle. We've met at Edgefield before and it's always an option, but the food and service were not great so we are looking for alternatives. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Try Skamania Lodge in Stevenson. Its about a mid-way point. I've not stayed there, but know of a lot who have and said it was good. I have only eaten Sunday Brunch, but I have to admit, it was a wonderful spread. A lot of company executives go there for corporate meetings.

One of my all time favorite restaurants is the Big River Grill in Stevenson, WA. I have been eating there for over 20 years. The same guy owns it. It is very comfy, really reasonable, low-key and casual. They also always play great tunes (the owner is a big blues fan). It doesn't matter what kind of soup of the day they have, it is always EXCELLENT. In fact, when I really want a fab soup and don't want to make it, I take the 25 minute trip up the Gorge from my house in Portland to satisfy my craving. BRG is located on the main drag of Stevenson across from the county government building. Go there. You won't be sorry!
