Which vegetarian restaurant would you rather go to?

KiwiGirl625 Jan 11, 2010 12:44 PM

I am setting up a dinner for one vegetarian, one vegetable-averse carnivore (who has begrudgingly agreed to go to a vegetarian restaurant for the sake of the first diner) and two people who eat meat occasionally but prefer to eat mostly vegetables. Would Candle 79 or Pure Food & Wine be better? I know they specialize in different types of vegetarian cuisine, but the menus for both places look fantastic. Any recommendations? And does one have an edge over the other in terms of pleasing a carnivore?

I LOVE Candle Cafe and Candle 79. Their seitan dishes are very 'meaty' and carnivores would be pleased. Candle Cafe is very accomodating with switching side dishes. Candle 79 is more elegant and the portions are more plated and smaller, but still excellent food.

      Have you considered Dirt Candy?

I love Dirt Candy! We went there when it first opened and are looking to go somewhere we haven't been to before.

As a carnivore who has been to both Pure, Candle 79 and Candle Cafe I would recommend Candle 79. I love all three but I think if the carnivore is averse, they'll find Candle 79 far more filling and meaty than Pure. And if they aren't open minded (though maybe they are), they might not appreciate everything that goes into the raw food prep at Pure and scoff at the high prices.

I like Counter too, re:smokeandapancake's comment but Pure/Candle are in a different league for me. I'm dying to check out Dirt Candy!

I like Blossom, but it can be unpredictable. First time we went, everything was excellent. Second time, some dishes were soo spicy and others were really bland.
