Brunch at DoSi Caffe' in Stapleton, SI

Wife and I decided to try DoSi for their brunch this late morning. I'd been there before a couple of times for lunch and dinner but hadn't felt compelled to write anything. I'm not a brunch person, but we went on on a whim.

This was so nice, and surprisingly inexpensive. Small brunch was $5, large was $8, desserts $5, drinks extra. I would think most places charge more for brunch! Live mellow-jazz trio (bass + 2 electric guitars). Roaring fire in the fireplace. A lively crowd; almost every table was filled, including a 20+ party group.

There were about 5 selections among the small brunch dishes, and about 10 for the large. We ordered from the large ones (which I would describe as average-sized). I had a baked egg dish with nice hint of oregano, chili and just-right amount of smoked mozzarella, accompanied by toast. My wife had the Eggs Benedict, which is normally served with Taylor ham, but her requested salmon was substituted at no extra charge, and she pronounced it very good. We shared a dessert of a flourless chocolate cake that was quite lovely.

All in all, a very satisfying experience, and I must say, not the kind of thing I expected in Stapleton. I sometimes get a down-at-the-heels feeling about my neighborhood, so it was nice to enjoy this upbeat meal. (This is not to disparage other quite nice restaurants here, including several Mexican, Honduran, Asian ones -- but it is nice to indulge in the linen-tablecloth atmosphere once in a while amid a large crowd.)

As a caveat, I didn't care for the coffee -- I learned only later that they also had espresso coffee, which (if good) I would have much preferred.

I have a feeling I'll be back.

I might add that lunch during the week here is also a bargain. They're trying to hang on and I for one welcome smaller portions at less cost.
