Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and The Bronx

Framboise Patisserie, Middle Village

I just moved to the area and went to this bakery yesterday. Amazing baked good. It's in what was Bauer's Bakery (that sign is still up). I talked to AJ, the owner, baker. He was the pastry Chef at Russo's by the Bay for a long time and decided to open his own place. Opened just a couple of months
I had a chocolate, cupcake there, which was very good. I brought home a croissant which was almost as good as the ones at La Bergamote and a fantastic jelly doughnut. He also gave us a sample of his creme brule, I'd say that the last time I tasted one this good was at 11 Madison.
He has everything from regular bakery faire to these amazing pastries that look like something at Payard's.
I grabbed the card, so here's the info:

Framboise Patisserie
64-59 Dry Harbor Rd, Middle Village

Surprising quality for a out of the way Queens bake shop.

                • I went by Framboise since it's along my shortcut route from Woodside to the Trader Joe's in Forest Hills. Thought it was pretty decent, but I'm not as enamored from my limited tasting as I was with Cannelle Patisserie in Jackson Heights. It seems like a great addition to the area, and certainly deserves support.

                    1. I stopped in yesterday evening. The bakery didn't feel as "French" as I would have expected from the name. For example, they had the sort of macaroons you'd eat on Passover, not the kind of macarons you'd find in Paris. The woman at the counter directed me towards the cookies, which is something I usually associate with Italian bakeries. I got a large selection of cookies and some marzipan, all of which were very good.

I don't think he wants to be a "French Patisserie". He wants to be a neighborhood bakery that also has great french pastries.
He still needs to appeal to the Italian and German customers that live in the area.
And everything I've tried has been outstanding.

                          • I drove by the other day and couldn't find it....now I just re read your post.....and it's my fault..the Bauer's sign through me off....if i have a chance I'll try and get their Sunday...do they have morning pastries, buns like Bauer's??

Not sure, but they had really good donuts and croissants.

                                • Stopped by today to pick up a box of cookies I need for a party.
I stayed and had a coffee and what was perhaps the best apricot hamentash I've ever eaten.

                                      The Apple TarT was amazing.

                                      • Anybody been here recently? We'll be within walking distance tomorrow. If you could only get one thing, what would it be? (Please don't say donuts---we can get plenty of those here in Peoria, IL ;-))

I was there in the spring and didn't care for anything I got, and thought it was expensive, too.
Can't remember exactly, but stale cookies and boring pastries...perhaps it was an off day, but
it didn't seem like anything was out of place in any way...

                                              1. re: janie

I didn't care for their baked goods, either. Nice people, but, unfortunately, the cookies and pastries all had an "off" taste; perhaps it was the shortening.
