You have to try Bistro Du Village. It's right in Port Washington. It doesn't have a liquor license, so you can bring your own wine. There is a pretty big wine store right next door. It's great French food and always a nice ambience. It's a smaller place, so I'd recommend making a reservation on a weekend. Also a few blocks from the LIRR.

Try Lola in Great Neck. The food is something you would expect to find in the city. I'm always shocked (and a little disappointed) when I leave and I'm on Long Island. It's also a short walk from the train, if that makes it easier.
