Appertif for a German Dinner?

Friends are hosting one tonight and I was just asked if I knew if there were any traditional drinks that might be served beforehand? I lived there for two years and can't come up with anything. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Jagermeister drunk as originally intended, or a Riesling Kabinett/Sekt

      Thanks, Steve, they came up with a Kabinett that worked perfectly.

        My understanding is that Jagermeister is a digestif; drinking that as intended would place it at the end of the meal.

        Any low abv German white wine ~ 8-9% abv.
