re: sharonlouk
I buy a lot of sprinkles, dragees, and fancy sugar crystals at the Amish Market in Easton, MD.
Same stuff as Sur La Table, Wilton, etc. at a fraction of the price. No elegant packaging, but who cares.I can color plain granulated sugar easily but can't do it with large crystals and sanding sugar.

Online, the Baker's Catalogue (from King Arthur Flour) has many colors of sugar. But really, if you go to Michael's or any place that sells cake decorating supplies you can get all sorts of colors of food coloring. Then, as MakingSense says, it is a cinch to color your own. You can use liquid food coloring, or the paste coloring (put a tiny dab of the paste coloring on a toothpick then mix it thoroughly into granulated sugar. start with a tiny dab then add more coloring if needed)

Thanks for your replies. I will definitely attempt to make my own.
I've never been to Sur La Table, but it's on my "to-go-to" list. I used to shop at Le Gourmet Chef in Columbia Mall, but noticed that the shop no longer exists and has been replaced by a sports memorabilia-type store. FoiGras

Colored granulated sugar is very easy to make if you want custom colors. Also much cheaper than buying it in fancy shops.
Put a small amount of sugar (1/4 c) in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Add ONE drop of food color. Shake the jar like crazy. That one drop will distribute itself all over the sugar crystals and you'll have colored sugar for your needs.
If the color is too dark, add more sugar and shake some more. Too light? Add another touch of color.
Cheap and easy. And you have the ingredients on hand.... -
