Dim Sum suggestions, not richmond hill......

Going for dim sum this Sunday. Have to be at Lawrence West and Jane first.
Any recommendations on a good place that is not too far from that area??
Would prefer not to have to go to Richmond Hill.

Definitely second T Long's recommendation of Grand Chinese Cuisine. Try the scallop dumplings, grouper rice roll and baked cod in pastry... my favourites! Also the desserts are solid.

You could go to HWY 7 and Martin Grove. There's a place called Akira I believe. It's still far from Jane/Lawrence, but better than RH.

Realistically if you want good Chinese food - Dim Sum included, you have to go where there is a large population of Chinese customers to keep the place authentic and busy - Jane and Lawrence is not that area.

If Richmond Hill is too far, and the airport is too far, then your only other option is downtown Chinatown or Scarborough... are you looking for cheap with carts? High quality with table service? Somewhere in between?

Personally even though I live downtown, I consider it worth the drive to Richmond Hill for high quality Dim Sum.

Otherwise, you would have to look at a place in the Markham/RH/Scarborough area.

I always do well at ForestView in Chinatown... nothing stands out to me as absolutely spectacular but I always leave happy... I'm also very happy when I head to Mississauga. Emerald on Hurontario near Eglinton is very good, as is the one I can never remember the name of in the back of 'Chinatown Square' off Dundas a bit west of Hurontario. Neither are exactly near Lawrence West and Jane, but wouldn't be hard to get to either... Expect lineups by noon on the weekend at all of these.
