Scratches on bottom of pans

I cook on a gas cooktop with heavy, rough grates (they came this way new). I have some very expensive new pots and pans (demeyere) that are getting scratched all around the base where they touch the cooktop grates. This is normal, right? Or am I defiling the cookware? Should I worry?

  1. What are your pots made of, stainless?
    And your grates, are they cast iron?
    I don't know if there's much you can do, aside from taking an appropriate sander to your grates.
    You're not really defiling the cookware, just sort of breaking it in.

    1. You don't want to look like some poser, do you? When I see a kitchen with nice, unscratched pans I know someone is faking it.

      Consider those scratches a normal sign of a tool that gets used.
