ISO fresh quinces

Does anyone know where I might be able to find fresh quinces in the Boston area this time of year? It seems that they come into season around late Nov./early Dec., so perhaps I'm too late. Whole Foods seems to have them now and again, but I keep missing them. Any recommendations for reliable sources would be much appreciated.

    1. they generally come around after the first frost. i think you may be out of luck.

        1. I last bought one in October i think, but I was looking for them now as well. Russo's in Watertown...website...lists them as available and in season now, and Ana Sortun is offering "Scallops with Quince Brown Butter & Brussels Sprout Tian with Shitake & Leek" at Oleana so they must still be in season.

Many thanks for the lead. Just called Russo's and was told that unfortunately they're "done for the season".

Strange. I saw some there just yesterday. Perhaps other Hounds might report...

Yes! Thanks for the tip! I just returned from Russo's (my first trip there, actually) and indeed they had quinces. They had loads of them there -- I have no idea why the guy on the phone automatically assumed they were out.

You are quite welcome. I hope Russo's lived up to your expectations, and am honored that you trusted my tip enough to make the trip there.
