dim sum in westchester this weekend in January 2010

Happy New Year!

A large handful of friends plans to have dim sum in westchester next weekend. In the past year, I've always chosen either Aberdeen or Central Seafood, and I've been quite content, but I am wondering if there are other options?

I also thought it was time to start a new dim sum post since the old one is long and seems pretty out-of-date.
Thanks.

  1. both of the above are adequate if you need to fill the craving quickly and without much of a drive but if you can do it Flushing is by far superior just more crowded and harder to get to for most...

I just passed by Jade Garden in Hartsdale and the new and improved remodel has a sign outside touting dim sum all day. I haven't been, so can't say if it is good or not.

I do want to try it out - maybe someone has been recently??? Otherwise, I may experiment with my mom during the week before taking a group. Thanks.

Jade Garden isn't bad. Its not spectacular. Certainly not the dim sum you get in Flushing, but its o.k.

That being said, the service at Jade Garden is just terrible. I normally reserve judgement about service on this website unless its just terrible, and just voice my opinion on the food.

The wait was long, we received our dim sum about 30 minutes after our entrees. The check arrived and the waiter stood over our shoulder as I signed my credit card receipt. They brought us the wrong soda and charged us for it anyway, and even though we sent the soda back they still insisted they charge us for it.

Long story short, I doubt we'll be back.

The place down the street in the Best Buy mall in Hartsdale has better dim sum. And much better service.

Thanks for the report. I think the best buy place (central seafood) is going to be for this time. The service report on Jade Garden is troubling - maybe I'll give it a try for takeout!

I agree about Flushing but this time we can't get there.... Thanks

i disagree about flushing. except for the street and window vendors, its dim sum is no better than central seafood. and if you don't speak chinese you're in trouble.

I'm gonna have to chime in here. IMHO, any Flushing dim sum location is better than Central Seafood. In fact I find the quality of Aberdeen in WP to be better than Central Seafood.

You don't have to speak Chinese in Flushing (or Chinatown or Brooklyn Chinatown). The service staff at the larger establishments speak passable English. Plus ordering dim sum is a lot of looking and pointing anyways. Some places even have carts with pictures and descriptions on them.

thanks pabboy, for helping me save my breath on this one LOL.

my thoughts as well. c'mon biga290 spend some time in flushing and you will find that your statement is just silly

      3. We keep going back to Aberdeen for its variety and authenticity. If you haven't been in awhile it gets quite crowded on weekends so make a reservation.

        1. We had lunch at Jade Garden on Saturday they were very busy. We had several staff take care of us, they were really trying to do their best. Suffice it to say service was a little sloppy however very friendly. The food was good too.

Chowdom, did you eat off the dim sum menu or the lunch menu?

            1. re: armonkfoodie

Lunch menu at Jade Garden ( haven't tried the dim sum yet), I like the dim sum at Central Seafood though ( service can be questionable there too on occasion)
