Chow wallpaper ... seriously?

http://www.chow.com/blog/2010/01/down...

This site is fuill of bugs. The mobile application doesn't work well. Every single installation has brought more problems.

The site is so glacially slow that even someone who is an avid fan of Chowhound has given up even on reading most of my local board.

So even if this is something that may not impact the major work, to put thru such a frivolous change which had to involve SOME tech support ... seriously?

This sums up Chowl. Push thru a bunch of changes that don't work, that don't address the needs of the community. It looks good to upper mangement while alientating more and more posters.

Really, who do you think this will attract?

And even if I was so inclined to check the wallpaper out, my bet is it is full of bugs.

I replied to your comment on the blog post, but to reiterate: the editorial team didn't need any help from the engineering team for this little effort. You're right, the engineering team has enough on their hands. We don't divert their attention for things like this.

Thank you for the response. I'm hoping the tech team can resolve some of the ongoing issues. It makes it easier to deal with and be patient if there is some reply

BTW, feel free to delete my rant on the Wallpaper post since it is addressed herw. Sometimes it is sad that an article's first post is something negative. It sets the whole tone. I read that first and posted before I thought it thru and decided the issue belonged on site talk.

Hi - I've read a number of times about your finding the site v. slow - is there any chance it's something on your end? I v. rarely have a problem with it, whether on my computer or someone elses, and using various internet connections.

I, too, don't find the site particularly slow. It hiccups sometimes and a page will fail to load, but most of the time, it's just fine, and even when I've had issues, it certainly hasn't been intolerable.

My only complaint with Chow is regarding the moderation.

rworange: How can a wallpaper possibly be "full of bugs", unless it's a picture of insects?

Ya know, I don't know. Somewhere mid-December I hit a bug that crossed the line. I no longer want to try new features.

Well, a jpg is a jpg, so there shouldn't be any problems.

Actually, the mushroom pic seems appropriate - it reminds me of the old Big Company slogan 'we must be mushrooms, management keeps us in the dark and feeds us ........ '.

In order to desensitize new members, I recommend the following pic for inclusion as wallpaper. Fresh off the site this PM.

Seriously, color me exasperated with chow.com!
