Philly wedding party venue suggestions

PhillyHorn Jan 8, 2010 08:25 AM

Hi Everyone!

I recently got engaged and while my fiancee and I aren't interested in the traditional-type wedding, we would like to host a celebration of some sort in the Philadelphia area during the summer. Mostly, we just want an excuse to roast a pig on a spit and drink some local craft brews while hanging out with our closest 75 friends and family members.

I was thinking that a pavilion at Fairmount Park might be a nice venue, but I'm open to any other suggestions. We aren't sure if we'll have the event catered or do more of a potluck wedding (we don't have a lot of money) but we know we'd like something outside, beautiful, and not terribly expensive. Your feedback and comments are most welcome. Cooking is a really important part of our lives together and we want very much to just "break bread" with our guests without much hullabaloo.

Thanks, and looking forward to your responses!

What about the FDR Park Boathouse:

I don't think a pavilion permit costs very much and the structure can't be beat. I don't know what the rules are for alcohol, though, so you might have to look into that.

Check out some of the Boat Houses. I catered a wedding a number of years ago at one of the houses and it was great. They had a big room and a smaller side room with a large bar and a great deck over the river. The couple was doing a less expensive event as well so it could not have been prohibitive.
