Murray hill neighborly restaurant

jycnyc Jan 8, 2010 05:43 AM

Recommendation sought for Murry Hill standbys. Currently, my takeout is limited to a thai place and a burrito place. I would love to add to the takeout list as well as try restaurants that are quaint, unpretentious, i.e. somewhere you can walk in by yourself on a Tuesday evening and have a quiet meal.

You should add Sarge's to your list. Best pastrami sandwich in NYC (IMHO).

the line during the week isn't bad. they are always crowded but i walked in on wednesday night around 9, waited less then 10. the weekend brunch is when the lines get crazy. i personally prefer the dinner to the brunch anyways.

depending on how much you want to spend there a few good spots. benjamins on 33rd & 2nd is a good spot. cinema cafe and caliente cab. granted none of these are blow your mind restaurants but good staples. ali ba ba is in the area.

jycnyc...what thai and burrito place do you order from?

only for brunch on the weekends. Its usually pretty quiet for dinner, esp during the week.

Brunch can be crazy, but I've never had a wait at dinner.

This is a thread you might find helpful:

We've been to Serge's many times. Have always had good food and service. Link to menu:

Their hanger steak is popular. I've had Coq Au Vin, mussels, escargot, various fish dishes.
