Roast Dinner for £1, and new adventures in steak

Went to the supermarket the other day and saw a bunch of things for 10p, including a poussin and some potatoes, so I ended up getting some spinach and making a cracking 1 person roast for less than £1! Obviously I had some non-main ingredients at home like butter and thyme, but I also used some duck fat on the potatoes. Oh, it was good eating.

The next day (yesterday) I made mash with the remaining potatoes, cooked the rest of the spinach and ate with a steak. The thing is, I deglazed the pan with red wine vinegar, reduced it, added a knob of butter and served it. That's jus, right? It was delicious! A real umami punch!

Excellent. The very proof that good foods do not require unreasonable expense.
