Sunday Night Dining

We arrive in the city mid afternoon and are hoping to find somewhere that isn't manic, with good food and low prices e.g. less than $15 an entree (plus tax, tip, drinks).

We like american fare - especially steaks, burgers and BBQ, italian, french and pizza.

I expect by dinner time we'll be in the Madison Square gardens area but will have a subway pass and willing to travel anywhere in Manhattan.

We were thinking Otto - is it busy on a Sunday around 7pm? Any other recs?

Thanks

I think the closest you'll get for a decent steak at a low price will be at Le Relais de Venise which will give you 2 servings of steak for $24. However, you don't choose the cut. There's only one. And they come with sauce and fries.

You might as well forget steak because finding one for $15 -- at least, one that tastes good -- is near impossible.

For pizza, Co., on the corner of 9th Av. & 24th St., is not too far from MSG. I have no idea how busy it would be on a Sunday evening.

If you're looking for American fare, how about some excellent deli? Sarge's, located due east of the Garden, on 3rd Av., b/t 36th & 37th Sts., has superb pastrami.

For bbq, Daisy May's, a cafeteria-style spot, is on the corner of 11th Av. & 46th St.

I'm guessing that's an Irish bar and we have an abundance of those here in the UK! I always try to avoid British / Irish places when on vacation where possible otherwise I might as well stay at home!

Preference would be homestyle american fare - fried chicken, pot pie etc, Italian or BBQ if possible.
