SF (Bayview): Auntie April's Chicken 'n' Waffles?

Anyone tried this place? Only chicken wings with those waffles ... 2 wings and large waffle $5

From SF Weelky

"Rich, juicy honey-glazed chicken wings ... Robust bacon-ribboned collard greens, sweet and spicy yams, and hot, crumbly cornbread are among the menu's highlights"

According to yelp there is also a bbq sauce for the wings.

There seem to be a handful of daily specials such as oxtail, meatloaf, catfish, gumbo

I haven't been able to add a link for weeks except by doing a review ... and since this is not a review ... here's the link to the restaurant record with address and hours

  1. I've been there a couple of times - unless they've changed the recipe recently, I don't recall the wings being honey-glazed. It's your solid fried chicken recipe (could use a little more seasoning); not sure if this helps but it reminds me a lot of what Dorsey's Locker in Oakland's fried chicken tastes like (although I think DL's quality has gone down a touch). I really like the waffles there; very sweet and fluffy. It's definitely in a rough area (I witnessed a drug deal the last time I was there) but the super friendly service from the owners make up for it.

Thanks for the rec. I met a friend there for breakfast this morning. The waffle and chicken are cooked to order and a deal for the price. A shot of hot sauce on the juicy chicken popped out the flavors. I took the thigh to-go and it was still juicy when I had it for lunch. April couldn't have been sweeter and we took a look at the photos of her nieces and nephews. A guy working on his car parked in front of the place, and I mean literally under the car, took a break to come in and place an order. Then April took his chicken outside, bent down and handed it to him under the car as he requested!

      Leg, thigh and waffle

The restaurant is two years old now. April said that she'll be barbecuing on May 15 for her customers and hopes that the regulars will turn out for the party.
