I will admit that I have no idea what LAQX is, but for a great diner near the 405 and LAX, Pann's seems like an obvious choice. Waffles and chicken wings..mmmm...
I haven't tried Dinah's, and I think it is further away drive timewise, but hubby had breakfast there this summer and had good things to say

I second Pann's. A real treat and a trip back in time.

it depends what you consider a great dinner to be.
for my food preference, AYARA THAI CUISINE is the best sit-down eating that westchester offers.
i haven't tried the sushi bar on lincoln near 83rd, though.
although i live in playa del rey, most often i drive out of the area when i eat out.

I presumed that the OP wasn't mis-spelling dinner and that he or she really was looking for a diner. might be good to get clarification. That said, for a dinner not at a diner very near to but not at LAX, I'd be inclined to head to Ayara also.

my eyes are going.
i completely misread, my old eyes incorrectly saw the word, "dinner"
thanks for correcting me

no worries, looks like there was a typo-LAQX-now corrected. OP is referring to a place he or she heard about near but not in the airport, and I agree, it almost has to be Pann's. (which is slightly northeast, if my knowledge of LA geography isn't failing me).

What's good there? Std Thai fare? Have seen it many times but haven't tried it.

i often go there with a group of 8 people and we've ordered a wide variety of things and been pleased with them.
i should say, though, that none of us are big beef or pork eaters--mostly we order seafood, vegetarian, and poultry, so i can't comment on the meat dishes.

Hi W.G.
How is that diner inside the bowling alley near Lincoln and Manchester? I went there years ago as it was a neighborhood "secret" and it was cheap and good. Have you been lately and is it as good as it once was?

Are you speaking of KJ's Diner http://www.kjsdiner.com/ which is next door to the AMF Bowling Center? It used to a 2nd Pepy's Galley (like the one remaining outpost with the great chilaquiles at the Mar Vista Bowling alley on Venice and Grandview over in Mar Vista).
KJ's get mixed reviews here.

Thank you so much for responses. Some years ago friends and chows were speaking glowingly about a simple coffee shop / diner place around or just North of LAX. I have a block to think of the name, but now visitoprs are asking me the same question.

And (as susancinsf recommended above) it wasn't Pann's? Gotta be Pann's.

I hope they weren't speaking of The Grinder.... old, old, old diner that needs a remodel, revamp and new chef. Dinah's is slightly above that. Pann's is sort of on the edge of the Westchester/LAX area and really makes you feel like you're in another time - movies have been filmed there. The Coffee Company, 8751 La Tijera Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, is another good American food place for breakfast and lunch, although I wouldn't classify it as a diner. Nichols, 4375 Glencoe Ave, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292, is a cut above Pann's.
