Fish 'n' Chips in Broward?
Both the Frog and Toad and the Falcon make some badass fish and chips, each from a slightly different school. The version at F&T consists of one or two huge filets and is exceedingly moist and flavorful. Last I had the Falcon's it was also excellent, with the kind of crunchy breading you dream about for days after. I'm not sure if (and when) a change of ownership effected the Falcon's version, however. But as someone mentioned, the beer list makes it worth a visit regardless.
Dewey's is famous for catfish, not fish and chips. For that you need a good British Pub. There is one named The Frog and Toad at 5782 Powerline Road, Fort Lauderdale. I still remember the last time I went. I am from New England so this was a taste of home for me when I was heaven for me. While I love Dewey's sometimes you need a thick piece of haddock beer battered and deep fried.
I used to like the Falcon, but the fish & chips are not what they used to be since they changed ownership. On the other hand, they do have an amazing beer selection!
There's also the King's Head on Dania bch blvd (and another on University in Sunrise, though I don't know if they're related.) Haven't been to either in a while, but maybe someone else can give you the thumbs up or down.
For what it's worth, I don't dig Catfish Dewey's either, but I love their hush puppies and their grits, I like The Field's version, and haven't been to Maguires in years (they seemed to be wildly inconsistent 4 or 5 years ago,) so we may not have the same idea of "stellar"...
