Sunday Brunch at Lacroix for Valentine's Day - Wise Move or Mistake?

V-Day is on a Sunday this year and I'm toying with the idea of doing brunch at Lacroix. Usually, we avoid going out on V-Day itself for obvious reasons, but I'm hoping that for Lacroix, it will just be business as usual.

So...wise move or mistake? Should we just do it the week after?

    1. Great question. I am also curious is they will be having special pricing on V-day; I know for Xmas day they were charging more than their normal brunch price.

If they are charging more, then we won't be going on V-Day. We'll probably go the next weekend.

Also, I was going to make a reservation on Open Table just to hold a place while we made our decision, but they are requiring a credit card to hold the spot and there was mention of a potential cancellation fee.

It's worth a call to ask. It would be a lovely v-day celebration, even if it's a week later!

            2. We are booked and plan on a Fabulous brunch on Valentine's Day!!

My philosophy is that for dinner at the least.. Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, are no times you want to go. The volume that a restaurant does clearly impacts selection and quality. You will either wait too long, have quality issues, have ambience concerns. Personally I would do something at home that weekend and do something special when the restaurant is going to be up to snuff.

Although, the nice thing about Lacroix's brunch is that there is no waiting because you just get up, wander around, and help yourself. I doubt they could take on more reservations than they already do... I think the only concern is if they are attempting to make the brunch more "special" than usual that would result in a higher price or different atmosphere than a typical Sunday.

There should be no concern about going to brunch at Lacroix on a holiday as long as you ensure that you will be seated in the main dining room as usual. They are always full and there should be no issues.

I'm a little reluctant to share this because we have always loved brunch at Lacroix. We were there over the holiday weekend for brunch. We were half way through our meal and the manager came over to our table and told us that we would have to move. He told us that WE had requested that table and it really belonged to another larger group. I told him that we hadn't requested that table...or any table. It was where we were seated by the hostess. Anway, there was another table for us and we moved. But my first thought was...is this some kind of joke? Second thought...they are slipping. The food is still really wonderful, but I'd say I can see a change in service. I'm not happy to report this, but it was such a strange event.

I did notice a visible disorganization in the service when we were there on 12/27. Service at the table was wonderful, food was spectacular... the audible disagreement going on between four of the staff steps away from our table was a bit unprofessional and I've never seen that there in the past.

DaisyM, were you somehow compensated for your inconvenience?

We were there on the 27, too! We were offered wine, which we declined. It was just very strange. I think the most bizzare part was that the manager was blaming us for sitting at the table! We also had to ask repeatedly for tea. It was very odd and realy not at all in keeping with our other experiences there. I'm hoping that it was just an off day, because it is a lovely brunch and we have always loved it.
