Bouley vs. something else?

af_eats Jan 4, 2010 12:38 PM

This is for my boyfriend's 30th. I really wanted to do it on Saturday night, and Daniel is booked. We could do friday but Saturday is preferable -- unless someone tells me I'm an idiot to go to Bouley over Daniel.

Or other suggestions? Aureole? We're doing a seafood thing on Thursday night so Le Bernardin is probably out...

Thanks!

Bouley is wonderful! I had a terrific birthday celebration at Bouley in August. I am looking forward to my next visit.

I don't think Bouley's food is even remotely close to the likes of Daniel and Le Bernardin. Between Bouley and Daniel, I'd easily take Daniel. But I'd probably take Le Bernardin over Daniel if given that choice.

I was a big fan of Bouley but lately I am not real happy with them, it's been awhile but I still like the old location better and the menu has been getting a little long in the tooth.

Daniel is easily one of your favorites and I would lean heavily towards going there if given a choice. If you are set on Saturday some other suggestions (if available of course):

        The Modern
        EMP
        Jean George
        Picholine

Admittedly I have not been to the "new" Aureole and although I loved the "old" place I still don't hold it in the same regard as the other restaurants mentioned.

I had a great meal at EMP for New Year's Eve; I had a mediocre meal at The Modern three weeks ago (food was fine, service wasn't). I haven't been to the new Aureole (even though I was a big fan of the old Aureole); I heard that Charlie Palmer changed much of his front of house staff which is a shame since they were the best part of the restaurant.

A shame about your meal at The Modern but since I can only comment on my experience it still easily ranks among the best I've had in NYC, and (I thought I would never say this) better than my last meal at EMP.

The main challenge is finding something available on Saturday, but I'd suggest your best choices are Corton and Eleven Madison Park.

Thanks for the feedback. Eleven Madison has no tables and I have been there (would prefer something new to me, too). Going to stick with Bouley, probably get the tasting... will report back.

I had the tasting menu for my birthday, and I loved it! Have a great time!
