Coffee oil - any ideas?

We received a beautiful bottle of ' coffee' oil for christmas. It came along with some ideas and recipes for use but I just wondered if anybody on the board has tried or used it?

  1. I haven't heard of this but am intrigued... is it an extract? What kind of ideas/recipes came with it?

    1. millygirl, is the coffee oil an infused olive oil product? If so, I have a bottle of this elixir and have used it to flavor coffee cake as well as beef stir fry but I have also used it to create a body scrub.

Yes, sorry I should have said it is an infused oil from Spain made by World's Best Coffees.

The phamplet that came with it has a few recipes but they don't really appeal to me. Shrimps in mint coffee sauce? Sea Bream in parchment with vinaigrette and coffee oil? Guacamole? And finally coffee olive oil ice cream. Hmmmmm.

My husband can't have coffee at night because it keeps him awake. Do you think this would have the same effect?

I like the idea of using it in a coffee cake. Any particular recipe HillJ?

millygirl, by way of example, in a coffee cake like this you can swap out the oil in the cake batter or flavor the icing with the oil. This is subtle flavor not intense coffee taste. Also any olive oil cake recipe would work and a coffee flavored icing drizzle over top would be nice.

Thank you HillJ, that looks wonderful. Will definitely give it a go.

      2. This is an old posting and you may not even have the bottle of coffee oil anymore. But in case you do, I thought I'd chime in. I recently bought a bottle of coffee-infused olive oil and have used it to make ice cream. My bottle also came with a coffee oil ice cream recipe, but since I already make olive oil ice cream on a regular basis, I just used my own recipe and subbed in the coffee oil. It tastes pretty great. My recipe is here:

Also, I recently tried the coffee oil drizzled over some avocado and tomato slices with a sprinkle of salt, and the flavour combo was great.

Hey TOFoodFan, thank you so much. Would you believe:
          a. I still have the bottle of coffee oil, sitting, unopened I might add, in my pantry.
          b. The coffee oil I have is the exact one you reference
          c. The ice cream looks amazing. I will def try it out.

I like the idea of the crushed amaretto cookies on top. In fact this gives me a great idea for my next dinner party . serve the ice cream in my little espresso cups with some crushed amaretto on top to mimic a latte of some sort.

Hey millygirl. Did you end up making the ice cream? Thoughts? Have you found any other interesting uses for the coffee oil?

            1. re: TOFoodFan

Hi TOFoodFan, funny you should ask....I just saw the bottle in my pantry yesterday when I was moving some stuff around. No I have not made ANYTHING with it yet. But I of these days.

No kidding. A bottle of coffee oil wouldn't last a year in my pantry. I do hope you find a good use for it, millygirl.

                1. re: HillJ

Now that you mention it, it has been a year. Christmas in fact.
Could it be rancid? Oh crap! I hope not, better check.
