Buddha's Veggie Cgy: now serving meat

I ordered some takeout from Buddha's this evening, and noticed that they've changed the name (it's now "Buddha's Veggie Fusion Cuisine"), and added pan-Asian meat dishes to the menu.

I believe they're under new management, but I'm not sure. When I went to pick up my food, it felt more like a regular Chinese restaurant inside, with the manager hovering around, and tables packed with families.

The service was pretty slow - I was told 30 minutes before my food would be ready, and it turned out to be 60. Still, the food I ordered (all veggie from the old menu) was the same as I remember, so I'll be going back.

However, with this change, I'm sure a number of vegans will cross Buddha's off their list.

    1. That is a bit disconcerning, "fusion" scares me.
      Do you know if they will still serve vegetarian dim sum on the weekends?

          maybe theres not enough vegs to make it work as it was.just cause they have meat doesnt kill the vege part of it

            The couple of times I'd been I thought the food was good but the pseudo-meat was weird and didn't taste so great. When I eat vegetarian (usually when traveling in areas of sketchy food handling practices) I much prefer protein from soybeans and lentils.

            I'd imagine it will be harder to keep dishes strictly vegetarian if they serve meat as well, but Indian restaurants do it all the time.

              There's a little food court stall in Chinatown called Veggie House or Veggie Town or something that also is also full of fake meat delights; they do it a lot better than Buddha's. I'm also obsessed with a fake meat place in Victoria called Lotus Pond where the food is amazing and super-cheap (last time I went I saw Sarah Kramer eating there- she's the author of quite a few vegean cookbooks). I've been to Buddha's with other Lotus Pond fans and we all agreed never to return- we just have biennial reunions in Victoria!

                I disagree completely about veggie house vs buddhas- the gluten sampler at veggie house is okay but the textures are all the same and the sauces, some of them, are cloyingly sweet. Buddha's gluten is an amazing selection, with one that is akin to the best back bacon I've ever tasted, taste AND texture are perfect.

          2. Probably needed the boost in business. I work really close to there and go about once or twice a month for lunch; it's always quiet - maybe one or two other tables.

            1. There was a piece about this in the Herald this weekend - it's the same owners, which is a surprise considering that they appeared to be devout Buddhists from the write up in the menu.
              The owners said it was a business decision. However they have separated the kitchen in half so that the meat and veggie are cooked and prepared separately. That would be the deciding factor for many, too bad many vegetarians will assume they all go in the same wok and won't visit anymore.
              The other thing that caught my eye is that they are going to start doing veggie and non-veggie dim sum on weekends from 11-2, which has convinced me to go back and give it a try. I want to try vegetarian chicken feet, lol..
