arax international foods watertown
I checked out Arax in Watertown yesterday...what a great store! Armenian/Lebanese foods, best selection I've seen (even better than Droubi's in Roslindale). But...make sure to check your receipt BEFORE leaving...I was overcharged 20 bucks, perhaps by simple "error" of adding a digit to an individual item (I had nothing in my basket that was over 7 bucks but there were two items worth 13 bucks or so each on the tab). The receipt is not itemized with specific item names. I live 35 miles out of town and don't come in often...the tolls each way would eat up a bit of any return on the money... and I doubt that I could get my money back even if I went back with all the items. My bad for not checking the receipt before leaving, but do beware when you visit this great source of Mediterranean foods.
Sounds like a one-time mistake... I shop there multiple times a week and have never had anything like that happen. They enter all the prices by hand, so I would guess that you're right about the error of adding an extra digit. Sorry you won't be able to go back and ask for your money back, though!

When I lived in the neighborhood I used to go to Arax at least twice a week and never had any problems- as a matter of fact, it's the kind of place where if the bill is 10.21, they'll just charge you $10. They do ring everything up by hand though, so it would be pretty easy to slip- probably a good idea to watch just in case.
Sorry to hear about your problem, and glad that you otherwise liked the place- It's definitely my favorite on that strip of stores, partly because they're the friendliest.

You can add my experience of being there 2, 3 times per week for years, without this ever happening to me. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

That is a complete bummer, and it is too bad you're so far out of town so you can't go back easily - I'm sure they'd apologize profusely. I've shopped there for years (and Sevan too), and that's never happened to me - and at both those places they round down in your favor on a frequent basis.
Glad you liked the place - try Sevan too, next time you're in the 'hood, and if you like lamejun, skip over to Belmont St. and try them at Eastern Lamemjun Baking Co. - I think they're the best of the lot.
