Moving to Abu Dhabi and looking for cheap yummy eats
Hi there, I'm moving to Abu Dhabi in a few weeks and I will like to find some great yummy eats on a budget. I'm excited, because I heard that there is a lot of Indian food there, but I also want to experience authentic Middle Eastern food too. Any ideas?
It's rather out of the way but if you're having a Thai craving, I would highly recommend Smiling BKK. I've been having ok Thai food at home and haven't been back to Thailand since 2002 so I thought maybe my memory was off, but one taste of the curry noodles and I knew I wasn't a picky know it all. It's not nearly as cheap as Bangkok, but not bad for Dubai. Located in the back of the Al Wasl Plaza (behind the Jumeirah post office and Emarat garage).
Don't automatically avoid the hotels. While there are numerous wonderful street food/ethnic restaurants, the hotels do offer superb dining, and perhaps more importantly, an alcohol license that allows them to serve alcohol.
I live in Dubai and can't help you with recommendations on places to eat in Abu Dhabi but you will certainly find wonderful Indian food and an astonishing range of different types of Indian and Pakistani restaurants catering to the various regions of India and Pakistan.
I had a wonderful Thai meal in the Hilton hotel on the Corniche.
As regards local food: there is not much in the way of a local Emirati cuisine. The default is Lebanese with its mezzes and grills. It can be absolutely wonderful.
you're going to the right place. stay away from the big glam hotels... you may as well be dining in a european city. there's a tong of great food to be had out there on the streets...
the best indian restaurant in town is havelis - top 5 curries in abu dhabi
