Does jarred tomato sauce go bad?

Hello, I'm cleaning out my kitchen cabinets, and found two jars of Rao's tomato sauce hiding in the very back. They're at least a year old - and probably older. At $9/jar, I don't want to toss them unnecessarily -- does anyone know whether unopened, jarred sauce goes bad? There's no expiration date.. Many thanks!

  1. As long as the vacuum seal hasn't been compromised, they should be fine inside of two years......5 years old...I'd give em a toss.

    1. Ditto to what four said. Unopened bottled and canned products last longer than most people think.

Another way to tell if it may still be good, or should be tossed, is to look at the color of the sauce itself.....if it is still bright and vibrant, I would say it's one indicator it is possibly still good enough to consume.....if the color has turned dark, then I would say it is final test would be to stick my finger in the sauce....if it doesn't fall off, I would then give it a very small taste to see if it bubbles in my mouth.:)
