Jang Tur Noodles - Korean noodle soup

Thanks to Eric Eto I had the courage to go into this shop on Union street just off of Northern blvd, on the 2nd floor. I don't have the exact address, but their phone number is 718 461 7600, according to the picture that Eric Eto posted.

In fact tonight it looked more welcoming, with actual pictures of some dishes on the wall. I was all ready to try some beef, or chicken or plain noodle soups, but then I spotted more selections. One that stood out was a bowl of noodles and sticky rice balls in dark thick sauce. It's red beans, the woman tells me. Is it sweet? No, she says. Hm. I love red beans. Could this be like a chili korean style?

I found out later It's Patjuk with Guksoo noodles. She brought it with a plate of thick cut pickled daikon radish (crisp and juicy) and one of kimchi. Also she brought some sugar, and said I can add some if I want. The Red bean is like a thick pureed porridge. I ate most of it without sugar because I wanted to eat the pickles along the way. Later, after I ate all the pickles and kimchi, I dipped the rice ball in the sauce of the pickled radish, sweet and sour and not too spicy...a strangely refreshing combo.

I'll have to go back and try the other savory noodles, on others' table they smelled really good, but, darn it, there's also a pan-fried spicy squid dish and white rice...and I saw others eating a plate of those dark brown fern, which I'll have to find out the name of, and something that resembled L.A Galbi, but didn't come on a sizzling plate.

One of the customers who saw me go in, and saw me order, chatted with me a little. On her way out, she exclaimed something to the effect that I ate everything clean, and patted me on the shoulder. Guess my good appetite showed.

    1. Glad you enjoyed Jang Tur. I haven't been there in a while, so thanks for reminding me to pay them a visit one of these days. It's perfect weather for their kalgooksoo noodles.

And here are photos of their signage:

E Eto - thanks for recommending Jang Tur. Bf and I made it out today... gosh darn, those hand cut noodles are awesome.

I remember reading on another thread that they didn't have an English menu. Good news!! Bf and I got a newly printed English menu today.

Pictures of what we ate are posted here:
