A menupages search shows 40 places in NYC that serve it. I recall reading, though have not tried, that MARFA in the E Village does it well.

I haven't been yet but have heard that The Redhead in the east village is the place for killer comfort food of that variety.

Chicken fired steak is not on the regular menu at The Redhead, and I don't think grits are either. I don't know if they ever offer it as a special, though. But the combination sure would be one heavy meal!I know a lot of southern and soul food places in the cvity and I can't think of anywhere that still offers chicken fried steak. I'm curious to kniow if anyone can come up with a place to get it.
I did have some of the best grits I've ever eaten at Mojo on 119th Street in Harlem, a slightly upscale cafe with a wonderful take on traditional southern food- fried chicken sliders, for example.
