Looking for caterer

saminthehood Jan 2, 2010 03:50 PM

We are putting together a party for around 75-80 people. We have not decided on Meat or Dairy yet, but are looking for a decent, but reasonably priced caterer for the food (we can handle drinks, silverware, tablecloths etc). Party will likely be in Queens and in the afternoon. We dont need or want a large established company (e.g. Prestige, Foremost) and may be willing to take a risk on someone new for a good price - but all suggestions are welcome. Note that the crowd is mainly orthodox so the Hashgacha needs to be acceptable, and frankly the food need not be inventive. Simple, typical Amercian - Heimish fare is fine. (e.g. if dairy, something like eggplant parm or lasgna; if meat, something like deli and chicken cutlets)

Hunkis for dairy. They're out of West Hempstead.

Traditions on Central Avenue for meat. I work with them a lot and they are a pleasure to work with and the food is great. The owner is Scott Fagin and it is also called Oasis Catering for off premises catering (not in the same league Foremost etc.)

What did you end up going with and were you happy? Would you mind telling me what other options you considered? We're putting together something similar (party for about 100 on a Sunday afternoon in Queens), and I'd love to hear your experience.
