First Time HK Visitor - Where to Eat?
Hi,
I am visiting HK for the first time in August (I know not the best month!) on route to Australia and was after some not to be missed places. I am currently a little ignorant of asian cooking, so apologies, but would be interested in trying the more 'fresh' side of Chinese food, I have a real hankering for fresh Vietnamese spring rolls, so that kind of style if possible? It would be nice to do a starred place or two, is Bo Innovation still worth a visit? Set lunch seems a bit of a bargain there, where is the destination to go? I would like to try and avoid French cooking in HK, but some of the 3 star places also offer good value lunch and it's always nice to lavish oneself every now and then.
I also read an article recently saying how coffee is taking off in Hong Kong, as a big lover of good coffee any tips on that front would also be appreciated.
Thanks for any tips
HK is the epicenter of Cantonese cooking. I know a lot of people are attracted to French, Italian, or fusion places in HK, but if it's your first time, why not concentrate on Cantonese? Personally I would try the following three items: dim sum, won ton soup noodles, and live seafood. There are lots of places for these items. Do a search on this board and you'll find many recommendations.

I agree with PeterL. For great Cantonese style fresh seafood, HK style, there are dozens of excellent options including high end restaurants. My favourite will always be any of the places on Sai Kung wharf

Would you give us a bit more info on the Sai Kung Wharf places. Any particular place? What to order?
I will return to HK in March after being away a very long time,so am beginning to gather up info that will lead me to great eating!

We were treated to this place at Lei Yue Mun (kowloon). The name is Hyde Park Garden Restaurant. I hesitate to recommend it because it is well hidden through some back alleys and is difficult to find. And you really have to know your way around fish tanks to know what you are ordering. But if you want to the phone number is 2717-6381. Their web site is www.hydeparkdeli.com.
